Photo Gallery: 2,000 Unseen June Fourth Photos (14)

In 2026, it marks the 37th anniversary of the “June Fourth” incident. Epoch Times exclusively obtained over two thousand never-before-seen historic photos of the “June Fourth” incident, shedding light on those years that the Chinese Communist Party has vigorously tried to conceal and erase.

During the spring and summer of 1989, a student-led democracy movement that shook the world ignited at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, rapidly spreading throughout China. Millions of students and civilians took to the streets to peacefully and rationally express their opposition to corruption and to demand democracy and freedom. However, the top echelons of the Chinese Communist Party secretly mobilized a large number of regular troops, launching a comprehensive crackdown on civilians with tanks and machine guns in the early hours of June 4th. According to unofficial estimates, the CCP shot and killed thousands to tens of thousands of people.

An official photographer who was present at the scene at that time documented this history in its entirety, capturing a large number of film reels that had been gathering dust for 37 years. These precious photos, entrusted to Epoch Times through knowledgeable sources, fulfill the elderly photographer’s wish. The collection includes both color and black-and-white photos, totaling over 2,000 images. Recently, the CCP has been threatening and harassing individuals it believes are linked to these photos, including Chinese and American citizens.

For 37 years, the CCP has continued to cover up and suppress the truth of the incident, vilifying the peaceful student protests as “counter-revolutionary riots” and denying the fact that the military opened fire on civilians. However, history does not disappear because of censorship.

In order to fulfill the dying wish of this elderly individual, Epoch Times is releasing for the first time in batches these 37-year-old “June Fourth” photos, guiding readers back to that sorrowful moment in history and reminding the world not to forget the CCP’s bloody massacre of its own people. The CCP continues to intensify its persecution and intimidation of innocent civilians today, including threatening Epoch Times staff not to publish these photos.
