The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Friday (July 19) that a Russian military delegation is visiting North Korea and had a meeting with Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
According to the official North Korean media KCNA, the military delegation led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko arrived in Pyongyang on July 19. Kim Jong Un met with the members of the delegation.
Reports indicate that the meeting between Kim Jong Un and Krivoruchko involved cooperation in the military field between the two countries. Kim Jong Un once again affirmed the significance of his meeting with Russian President Putin in Pyongyang in June.
During his visit to Pyongyang on June 19, Putin signed a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement” with Kim Jong Un. Following the signing of the document, Putin mentioned that the agreement includes clauses for mutual defense in case one of the countries is under attack.
Peskov, when asked about the Russian military delegation’s visit to North Korea during a phone conference, stated, “Work is ongoing, including the implementation of the agreements reached during President Putin’s recent official visit to Pyongyang.”
“This is a visit that is rich in content, full of information, and productive. Currently, both sides are working to implement the contents of the agreements. The itinerary of our delegation is part of this agreement.”
The meeting between the Russian military delegation and North Korean officials signifies the continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries following the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
