Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Resuming acceptance of visa applications from people of Moroccan nationality

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China announced today that it has resumed accepting visa applications from Moroccan nationals starting from October 12th. This decision comes as a response to Morocco’s resumption of processing visa confirmation letters for Taiwanese citizens since September 21st.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Moroccan government resumed accepting visa confirmation letter (VCL) applications from Taiwanese nationals on September 21st. The Republic of China expressed its approval of this move and announced the resumption of accepting visa applications from Moroccan nationals starting October 12th. Moroccan individuals can now apply for visas to Taiwan through the relevant procedures at Taiwan’s overseas missions.

Morocco had previously issued a directive on July 23rd instructing its global embassies and consulates to suspend the processing of VCL applications, which affected Taiwanese citizens’ travels to Morocco for exchanges. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 30th, in adherence to the principle of reciprocity, suspended the acceptance of visa applications from Moroccan nationals intending to visit Taiwan, except for those approved on a case-by-case basis.

Travel agency Five Dragons, based in Morocco, confirmed on their official website that they have resumed accepting Visa Confirmation Letter (VCL) applications after verifying with the Moroccan embassy in Tokyo, Japan. The agency has now resumed providing visa application services for Taiwanese travelers.

On September 28th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that Morocco has resumed accepting visa confirmation letter applications from Taiwanese nationals for “tourism” purposes since September 21st. However, as Morocco has not officially announced these adjustments and is currently only processing “tourism” applications, the Ministry will continue to discuss reopening visa applications for Moroccan nationals wishing to visit Taiwan.
