The Ocean Affairs Council Coast Guard Administration of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that on the morning of the 18th, two Chinese Communist Party (CCP) coast guard ships intruded into the restricted waters of Dongsha immediately after the conclusion of the Han Kuang military exercises in Taiwan. The Coast Guard vessel “Yunlin” took prompt action to monitor their movements and used radio broadcasts to forcefully drive them away from guarding Dongsha.
According to a press release issued by the Ocean Affairs Council Coast Guard Administration of the Republic of China (Taiwan), on the morning of the 18th at 7 AM, the Southeast Division of the Coast Guard stationed in Dongsha detected two CCP coast guard ships numbered “3303” and “3107” outside the restricted waters of the Republic of China’s Dongsha. Based on their course, it was assessed that they intended to invade the restricted waters of Dongsha.
The Coast Guard Administration immediately dispatched the “Yunlin” vessel for interception and deployed the “Tainan” vessel for emergency support. At 8:42 AM on the 18th, the CCP coast guard ships “3303” and “3107” sailed into the restricted waters of Dongsha. The “Yunlin” vessel promptly took action to monitor their movements and used both Chinese and English broadcasts to forcefully drive them away.
In the current year of 2026, the Coast Guard Administration has already driven away a total of 5 CCP coast guard ships on 11 occasions from the restricted waters of Dongsha. The latest intrusion by the Chinese side, dispatching two coast guard ships to disturb the restricted waters of Dongsha right after the conclusion of the Han Kuang exercises, is essentially an act of infringement equivalent to their “pseudo-law enforcement, actual expansion of powers” in the eastern waters of Taiwan, severely undermining regional peace and stability.
During the broadcast-driven eviction process, the Coast Guard vessel “Yunlin” encountered the malicious claim by CCP coast guard ship “3303” stating, “The (CCP) China Taiwan Coast Guard vessel Yunlin” and other false messages that deviate from reality. The Coast Guard Administration issued the strongest condemnation against such political manipulation by the Chinese side.
Emphasizing that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country not subordinated to the People’s Republic of China, the Coast Guard Administration reiterated that only they have the authority to enforce the law in the waters of Dongsha. China allowing coast guard ships to intrude into the Dongsha waters, attempting to create a semblance of “jurisdictional authority,” has become a troublemaker undermining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Furthermore, the Coast Guard Administration reaffirmed that national sovereignty cannot be provoked, and they have the determination to defend sovereignty and the capability to maintain peace. They will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security.
