The Uyghur actress Gulnazar, one of the “Four Beauties of Xinjiang,” recently revealed on the variety show “Our Dormitory” that her full legal name is “Gulnazaer Baihetiyar.” Due to a registration error in her household documents when she was young, her ID card has an extra character in her name and another character with a different shape, causing many inconveniences in her daily life such as booking flights and high-speed rail tickets.
Gulnazar disclosed in the program that there are “two major blunders” in her name.
Firstly, there is an additional character “er.” Her full legal name is “Gulnazaer Baihetiyar,” and the character “er” after “Gulnaza” was originally non-existent. It was mistakenly input by the staff during the household registration process many years ago. This error has been fixed in the household files and has been used ever since.
Secondly, there is a misalignment in the characters “Na” and “Nu:” Gulnazar herself and her stage name both prefer the character “Nu” with the radical for female, but the ID card is registered with the character “Na” without the radical. Although both characters have the same pronunciation, their characters are different, causing obstacles in identity verification.
As the real-name ticket purchase system requires the name to be exactly the same as that on the identification document, and Gulnazar’s name consists of 10 Chinese characters with two character differences, being an artist who frequently travels, she must meticulously check her documents letter by letter each time she books a ticket, similar to going through a checkpoint. Any slight deviation forces her to face ticket refunds and changes, making travel disruptions a common occurrence.
With the recent requirement for mainland Chinese actors to prioritize using their legal household registration names in their credited works, Gulnazar’s long 10-character full name, resulting from an error, stands out prominently on official posters, becoming her irreplaceable personal marker.
Gulnazar, aged 34 (birth name: Gulnazaer Baihetiyar), was born in Urumqi, Xinjiang in 1992, and graduated from the Performance Department of the Beijing Film Academy in 2015. Due to her deep facial features, outstanding appearance, and along with Dilireba, Tong Liya, and Madina, she is collectively known as the “Four Beauties of Xinjiang,” and has starred in several popular period and contemporary film and television works.
