Man Dies After Being Attacked by Siberian Tiger at Wildlife Park in UK

On Saturday, October 10, the British police confirmed that a man was killed in a tiger attack at a wildlife park in Yorkshire.

At 1:35 pm local time, the South Yorkshire police received a call reporting that a man had entered the tiger enclosure at the park. The police stated that the tiger then attacked the man, resulting in serious injuries.

A statement added, “Emergency rescue personnel arrived at the scene, but sadly, despite the efforts of medical staff, the man was pronounced dead on the spot.”

The police further mentioned that the man’s family has been notified, and they are providing support to them.

A spokesperson for the wildlife park said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim.”

“We are working closely with the police and relevant authorities and urge everyone to respect the privacy of those affected during this extremely difficult time. The park will remain closed tomorrow,” the statement added.

The police confirmed that the tiger was unharmed and remained inside the enclosure after the incident, posing no further risk to the public.

The park has been evacuated, and officers are still at the scene.

Authorities have noted the circulation of some related videos online and are advising the public not to share them.

Videos circulating on social media show a man wearing a black hoodie sitting on the park grounds being attacked by a tiger.

A spokesperson from the Yorkshire ambulance service center stated that they have dispatched multiple rescue teams, including two ambulances, the Yorkshire air ambulance, and a doctor to the scene.

Earlier, the park had issued a statement on its website stating that they have “immediately activated” their emergency response procedures and are “closely working with the relevant departments to ascertain the facts of the incident.”

According to BBC reports, 39-year-old Karmelle Pelham from Worksop was at the park with her family and was later informed by staff that they needed to evacuate.

She mentioned hearing what sounded like “gunshots” and seeing an air ambulance circling above.

Pelham added, “There was a massive black tarpaulin covering the tiger enclosure.”

The Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened in 2009, and its Tiger Sanctuary area was inaugurated in 2011.

This two-acre dedicated conservation area is home to the critically endangered subspecies of the Chinese Amur tiger, with only about 500 individuals remaining in the wild.

Photos of the tiger enclosure on the park’s website show elevated walkways for visitors within the enclosure and fencing above the tiger activity area.
