Recently, 52-year-old actress Zhu Yan revealed that she has suffered a devastating blow in life and is now bankrupt. All her properties and jewelry have been liquidated to repay debts; a villa that was already sold was foreclosed, leading to a breach of contract dispute and a lawsuit claiming 6 million yuan. She still carries a huge amount of debt and is entangled in legal battles.
Zhu Yan disclosed that in 2019, out of trust in her ex-husband, she signed an unlimited liability guarantee agreement for him. After her ex-husband’s debts exploded and he couldn’t repay, she, as the guarantor, had to assume full responsibility. All her assets such as properties and jewelry were seized and disposed of by the court, wiping out her lifetime savings overnight.
Even more challenging, a villa that had already been sold with a down payment of 1.5 million yuan was forcibly auctioned by the court due to the guarantee issue, resulting in a lawsuit against Zhu Yan by the buyer for breach of contract. The buyer is suing her for 6 million yuan, including the down payment, the appreciation difference of the house, renovation costs, and more, adding a new massive debt burden on top of her bankruptcy. Currently, she is embroiled in legal disputes, with even the legal fees becoming a burden.
To earn money to repay her debts, Zhu Yan went to Hengdian to film a short drama. She said that if this path doesn’t work out, her worst-case scenario would be selling dumplings at a roadside stall to make a living.
She stated, “Complaining is useless, the only thing that can change is the attitude towards adversity.” Her attitude has sparked a lot of discussion.
