Jiangsu Factional Female Official Lian Yueqin in Trouble, Previously Promoted by Li Yuanchao

After disappearing from the public eye for half a year, Lian Yueqin, former director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Province of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), was confirmed by the CCP National People’s Congress Standing Committee for being removed from her position as a national People’s Congress representative due to “suspected serious violations of discipline and law”.

Lian Yueqin had worked with Li Yuanchao’s former secretary Yao Xiaodong for many years in Huai’an City.

The CCP National People’s Congress Standing Committee released the second notice of the year on April 17, 2026. The report on the qualifications of individual delegates disclosed for the first time that Lian Yueqin, who was elected as the 14th National People’s Congress representative from Jiangsu Province and served as the former director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Provincial Government, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. The notice did not specify the specific details of her violations.

As of now, the CCP Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Jiangsu Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection have not announced news of Lian Yueqin being investigated for “suspected serious violations of discipline and law”.

Back on February 26, 2026, the CCP National People’s Congress Standing Committee announced the removal of qualifications from 19 National People’s Congress delegates, including 10 civilian officials. Lian Yueqin’s last public appearance was at the 19th Taiwan Business Forum held in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province from October 16 to 18, 2025.
