After the anticipation that the previous generation of iPhone models would see a price drop following the launch of the new iPhone, ‘wait-and-see’ consumers were surprised to find that what they were waiting for was actually price increases.
According to a report by technology media outlet PCMag, Apple raised the prices of multiple existing iPhone models by $100 each after introducing the iPhone 18 Pro series, with even the iPhone 16 being affected by the price hike.

– iPhone Duo (US$1,099) is not included in the comparison.
PCMag pointed out that this price increase is related to the rising costs of global memory and components. Apple CEO Cook had previously hinted at the company facing “unavoidable” price pressure.
This shift signifies a change in the familiar pattern where new models are released and old models see price drops. Consumers who were planning to wait for discounts after the new models launch may now find themselves paying higher prices instead.
Price adjustments have also been seen in the Canadian market, for example, the iPhone 17 256GB is currently priced at $1,299 CAD on the official Apple Canada website, compared to the starting price of $1,129 CAD when it was launched in 2025.
Apple’s official statement mentioned the introduction of the “Apple Upgrade” leasing plan provided by Klarna in the US market, with the iPhone 18 Pro 24-month plan starting at a minimum of $34.99 per month. At the end of the term, users can choose to pay off the remaining balance to keep the phone, return the phone, or upgrade to a new phone and start a new lease.
In Canada, the iPhone 18 Pro is offered with a 24-month 0% annual interest installment plan, starting at $72.87 CAD per month.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will begin on September 12 at 5 am (Pacific Time), with the official release scheduled for September 18.
The first foldable iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order on October 16, with the official launch set for October 23.
As listed on the Apple Canada website, the starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,749 CAD, while the Pro Max is priced at $1,899 CAD.
