On Wednesday, September 9, Apple held the “Surprise and Shine” press conference at 1 PM Eastern Time in the United States. The most eye-catching announcement was the debut of their first foldable screen smartphone.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max at the event. The design and feel of these two phones are similar to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max from 2025, but they come with a faster A20 Pro processor. The CPU, GPU, and neural network engine have all been upgraded, allowing for smooth operation of various applications from games to AI models.
Battery life has also been improved, with the iPhone 18 Pro boasting a battery life of up to 24 hours, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max up to 30 hours.
These latest iPhones from Apple come equipped with Apple Intelligence software and an upgraded version of Siri (named Siri AI). In a video demonstration, Apple showcased asking Siri AI about text messages and email topics, using the iPhone’s camera to view the surrounding environment, and how to access a wealth of knowledge.
Apple Intelligence supports 16 languages, with the Siri AI English version set to be released this month, followed by French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support in October.
Apple also announced that they have found a new way to manage heat in the iPhone.
Anyone who has experienced overheating issues with their iPhone knows that controlling device temperature can sometimes be a challenge. Apple has now developed a new “heat management system” to support the new chips in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, preventing the devices from overheating.
It is reported that this system includes a “heat distribution plate” where “deionized water” circulates, along with the use of new graphite and copper materials.
