Just before the May 1st holiday, Chinese Politburo Standing Committee member and Premier Li Keqiang conducted a three-day research tour in Guangxi from April 29th to May 1st. According to Xinhua News Agency, Li Keqiang visited Nanning City, Qinzhou City, and Beihai City during the tour, accompanied by State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Wu Zhenglong.

The relationship between Li Keqiang’s visit and the intensive investigations of Guangxi officials has sparked speculation.
It is noteworthy that Guo Shengkun, a former Politburo member of the Communist Party of China and the former Party Secretary of Guangxi Autonomous Region from 2007 to 2012, had been in positions of leadership over Lan Tianli and Peng Xiaochun. Peng Xiaochun had also served as the former deputy secretary-general of the Party Committee of Guangxi Autonomous Region and director of the General Office, acting as the right-hand man of Guo Shengkun.
Guo Shengkun and former Politburo Standing Committee member Zeng Qinghong are said to be old acquaintances from Jiangxi. Guo Shengkun served as a State Councilor and Minister of Public Security after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party. From December 2012 to March 2018, Peng Qinghua succeeded Guo Shengkun as the Party Secretary of Guangxi. Peng Qinghua had previously been a colleague of Zeng Qinghong in the Central Organization Department and is currently a Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress.
