Shangjie’s Z7 exhibit called out for being “improper” at new product launch event

On the evening of April 22, at the Hongmeng Mobility 2026 Spring New Product Launch event, the Shangjie Z7 did not leave the stage along with the other display cars. While Sailes’ president was talking about the Wenjie M6, the Shangjie Z7 remained in the center of the stage. During this time, the driver attempted to start the car multiple times without success and eventually stepped out of the vehicle. Subsequently, the Shangjie Z7 incident became a hot topic on social media networks.

At the Hongmeng Mobility Spring New Product Launch on the evening of April 22, Huawei’s Executive Director, Chairman of the Product Review Committee, and Chairman of the Terminal BG, Yu Chengdong, officially introduced the Shangjie Z7, Shangjie Z7T, and Wenjie M6. Currently, the Shangjie Z7 and Z7T have been officially released with prices starting at 219,800 yuan and 229,800 yuan respectively, while the Wenjie M6 starts at 259,800 yuan.

However, a “minor incident” occurred during the event, leading to questions about the Shangjie Z7 being stuck.

Live videos from the scene showed a pink Shangjie Z7 stranded halfway through the event (click to watch the video), with the driver attempting unsuccessfully to start the vehicle and then stepping out of it, while the other three display cars exited normally. Netizens speculated about a possible “gear malfunction.” Labels such as “Hongmeng Mobility Launch Incident,” “Shangjie Z7 Stuck,” and “Shangjie Z7” quickly trended on Weibo.

Netizens commented, “It seems like the first time a car has been stuck at a new product launch.” “The Shangjie just stubbornly stayed in the middle… with the driver scratching his head inside and making videos, it’s quite humorous.” “This is a new car launch event, what’s going on with this car?” “They were introducing the Wenjie at the event, why was the Shangjie still there?”

“After the introduction of the Shangjie Z7 at the Hongmeng Mobility event, the vehicle did not leave the stage along with the other display cars. The live video shows the driver repeatedly trying to operate the central screen and failing to shift gears, resulting in the vehicle being stranded until the Wenjie M6 presentation. As a result, the comment section in the live stream was closed, and viewers exclaimed, ‘The Shangjie is stuck.'”

“The Shangjie being stuck means it couldn’t move, leading to Sailes’ president talking about the Wenjie while it was still there.” “Being stuck is not the norm, it should be an issue with the car key authentication. The original process should have been to drive it off, or else it’s not logical for the Sailes president to come on stage while there’s a car stuck on the platform.” “They’re talking about the Wenjie, why is the Shangjie still there?”

“Was the Shangjie Z7 being stuck due to a design flaw or a live stream accident? When I saw the Shangjie Z7 stuck on the platform unable to move, I felt this particular incident would definitely stir up discussions. I can only say, when you’re under pressure, look at this staff member’s work.”

“A very embarrassing situation. At the Hongmeng Mobility event, they were already talking about the Wenjie, yet the Shangjie Z7 was still hesitating to leave, suspected to be stuck. However, the organizers later explained that it was to display all four new cars simultaneously.”

Some netizens argued, “The problem is, didn’t you inform the driver? Why did the driver keep getting in and out of the car repeatedly?” “If the driver had not stepped out to check, they might have been able to resolve it smoothly.”

Digital blogger “Xiaolin” posted, “The Shangjie Z7 getting stuck at the launch event is superficially a sudden occurrence, but from a different perspective, it seems more like a ‘trust test’ within the high-traffic peak.

“On one hand, the video showed the driver repeatedly trying to operate the central control and shift gears without success, resulting in the vehicle being stuck in the center stage, affecting the subsequent displays; on the other hand, officials claimed it was a predetermined arrangement to display four new cars simultaneously, but the driver didn’t receive the order and caused a misunderstanding, with fans also providing evidence that it was a design aspect.”

“However, when young people are buying cars worth over 200,000 yuan, they prioritize quality control and safety. Regardless of the truth of this incident, it easily amplifies everyone’s concerns about the reliability of the new cars, especially contrasting with the enthusiasm of Xiao Zhan’s fans to order. The officials’ subsequent actions of having the four cars leave the stage together and releasing a crash test video are essentially an attempt to counterbalance the situation and stabilize public opinion.”

“At present, without a third-party malfunction report, the most crucial aspect is for the authorities to provide a transparent explanation of the reasons. Fan enthusiasm may drive orders, but to retain users properly, it still depends on product stability and transparent communication; otherwise, once the hype fades, doubts may become even harder to dispel.”
