Train Bassist Charlie Colin Dies Unexpectedly at Age 58

Charlie Colin, the bassist and founding member of the American band Train, recently passed away at the age of 58 after slipping and falling in the shower. His fellow band members paid tribute to Colin, describing him as the “kindest person.”

According to Charlie Colin’s sister, who confirmed his death to the Associated Press on May 22, Colin was in Brussels, Belgium, house-sitting for a friend when the accident occurred. His mother told TMZ that it is still unclear when Colin slipped in the shower, as he was only discovered on the floor by friends who returned home about five days ago from a trip.

Colin’s mother revealed that the musician was teaching at a music academy in Brussels and working on music for an upcoming film. She described him as an outstanding individual.

Born and raised in Southern California, Colin studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he began playing bass for the band Apostles. After the disbandment of Apostles, Colin moved to San Francisco and founded his own band Train in 1993, releasing their hit song “Drops of Jupiter” eight years later.

In a touching tribute on Instagram, Train shared an old photo of the band and expressed their admiration for Charlie Colin, stating, “When I met Charlie Colin, I fell in love with him. He was the kindest person and the most handsome guy, who led us to form a band, which was a wise decision. His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar performances caught the attention of people in San Francisco and beyond. In my heart, he will always be a warm soul.”

In 2002, Colin’s band Train won two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Instrumental Accompaniment. After leaving the band in 2003, Colin continued to perform with and provide musical background for many other bands.

Reminiscing about their time with Colin, Train said, “I always wanted to bring him closer but he had his own ideas. You are a legend, Charlie. Go charm those angels.”

Our hearts go out to Charlie Colin’s family, friends, and fans as they mourn the loss of a talented musician and beloved individual. His contributions to the music industry will always be remembered and cherished. May he rest in peace.
