Challenge: Taiwanese and Japanese Artists Collaborate in Reality Show to Canoe from Taiwan to Japan

In a collaboration between Taiwan and Japan, the reality adventure show “Let’s Board the Ship!” is challenging participants to paddle from Hualien Harbor in Taiwan to Ishigaki Island in Japan, marking the biggest challenge of their lives for the team members from both countries.

The program “Let’s Board the Ship!”, jointly produced by Sanli TV, CTV, and the Institute of Literature and Philosophy from Japan, has Taiwanese artists such as Hu Yuwei, Guo Hongzhi, Cai Changxian, KID, Rima Sidan, Zhong Yao, and Lei Aimei accepting the challenge. On the Japanese side, popular artist Roland has been invited to lead the cheering team. Recently, he joined the coach to experience training in canoeing, gearing up for this high-spirited adventure.

Roland expressed his surprise at the unprecedented scale of filming a reality show featuring canoeing from Taiwan to Japan, calling it a monumental challenge. He shared, “I just finished filming the part where I practice rowing with athlete Haneda. It’s a level of difficulty I have never experienced before.”

Maintaining his physique remarkably well, Roland jokingly mentioned that he is currently in a period of gaining weight, eating frequently, yet he hasn’t gained a pound in a year. When asked about the secret to his good shape, he credited the support from everyone. He said, “The attention from people is the greatest motivation to enhance the pursuit of beauty within oneself, so I am truly grateful for everyone’s support.”

Known for his inspirational quotes, Roland emphasized his principle that “precedents are not searched for, but created.” Therefore, when faced with skepticism like “you can’t do it” or “it’s impossible,” the ever-challenging Roland would think, “Doesn’t any of those precedents you know of include me? Then I will continue to challenge and show you!”
