A group of men attending Sunday service at a church were in for a surprise when they showed up wearing matching shirts, unaware that this was an elaborate prank orchestrated by their wives.
The idea for the prank originated from a video shared by Savannah Farely, the social media manager at Pinnacle Church in Vinton, Ohio, in the church’s group chat for the ladies.
Farely told Epoch Times, “I saw a video online, and then the ladies of our church started a group chat. Our relationships are great, so I shared the video with them, thought it was funny, and suggested we do the same. All the ladies immediately jumped on board with planning the prank because we love to have fun.”
Farely’s mother found a blue checkered shirt online that she thought all the men would like. She then shared the link with all the women in the church, and everyone agreed on the choice.
The planning of the prank took about three weeks to complete, but the secret was kept under wraps.
After the shirts arrived, each wife in the church group told her husband that she happened to find the shirt online or on sale. Surprisingly, all the men believed their wives.
On the day of the prank, March 24, the Sunday before Easter, a few men showed up at the service earlier than others.
When the first two men saw each other, they couldn’t help but exclaim, “Oh, we happened to wear the same shirt today.”
Then, a young boy also walked in wearing the same shirt, and they just thought it was a coincidence.
However, as more and more people entered, they gradually realized, “Oh, everyone is wearing the same shirt today.” That’s when they realized they had been pranked.
Farely described the reactions to the prank as funny but varied among the participants.
Her father, who is the pastor of the church, pointed out that the people in the church looked like Spider-Man pointing at his clones.
Meanwhile, the expression of prayer leader Jared was described by many as “grumpy.” However, Farely clarified that, “It wasn’t the case, he was just playing along, it was all in good fun.”
That day, a total of about 15 people, including the young boy, wore the same shirt. It was a successful prank for the women who planned it, demonstrating their love for each other.
Pinnacle Church was founded in 2023 by like-minded Christians in Ohio. They began meeting in houses and parks before finding a building in Vinton.
As the social media manager, Farely has been searching for interesting content to share online. She said, “As a church family, we often joke around. So I thought this would really reflect our way of life. We enjoy good times together.”
However, she didn’t expect the prank video to go viral online. Nonetheless, she was happy to know that so many people were aware of it.
Farely shared, “Some other churches saw the program and came up with new creative ideas, which was really fun. Many of our family and friends have seen it and found it amusing.”
Many netizens commented that Pinnacle Church seemed like a wonderful church family, a sentiment Farely wholeheartedly agrees with. She said, “You can see the love we have for each other, as expected.”
