In Canada, during the renovation of an old house, workers stumbled upon an old wallet hidden beneath the floorboards. Inside the wallet, items such as a student ID, driver’s license, and a theater ticket were still intact. News of this discovery spread and eventually reached the original owner, a 68-year-old man, who had lost the wallet 51 years ago.
According to the report by the United Press International (UPI) on October 6th, carpenter Matty Goldsmith and his team were working on a house on Victoria Road in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia when they uncovered the wallet beneath the old floorboards.
The contents of the wallet were remarkably well-preserved and included a driver’s license, a Dartmouth High School student ID, a handwritten birth certificate, and a $1 bill. Interestingly, there was also a theater ticket dated 1975 for the Shakespearean play “Hamlet,” with a ticket price of only $1.50.
In an effort to locate the owner, Goldsmith posted photos of the wallet and its contents on social media. Donna Gilroy recognized the wallet as one that her husband, Richard Gilroy, had lost when he was young.
Three days later, the wallet was returned to Gilroy’s hands.
Now 68 years old, Gilroy vividly remembers losing the wallet in the house 51 years ago when he was a high school student working on construction there.
After more than half a century, Gilroy had forgotten about some of the items inside the wallet. He couldn’t even recall attending the play “Hamlet” in 1975, so he was surprised to see the old ticket priced at just $1.50.
Gilroy plans to preserve the recovered wallet and its contents as a memento of the past.
