A documentary film titled “The Expose of the Destruction of Phone Scam in Northern Myanmar” premiered on mainland television from October 5th to 7th. The documentary revealed details of a transnational case known as the “8.05 Shooting Case,” sparking public attention.
The film showed that the main investor in the case, Lin Jian, adopted a “profit-sharing cooperation” model to lease 30 Chinese nationals engaged in phone scam activities from the “Tenglong Company” under the Bai family, one of the “Four Great Families” in Kokang, Northern Myanmar. These individuals were placed in Lin Jian’s own operating “Jinxin Company” (Jinxin Phone Scam Park) to carry out investment and financial fraud.
Unable to tolerate the violent control and physical torture within the park, in August 5, 2023, over twenty Chinese nationals attempted to collectively escape the park and return to their home country, only to be intercepted by armed personnel of Burmese nationality at the park’s entrance. Lin Jian immediately ordered the firing of shots, and armed men subsequently used AK-47 assault rifles to fire at the fleeing individuals at close range.
Survivor of the phone scam workers, Wu, recalled that they attempted to resist collectively when they ventured out of the office, thinking they could break through, but they were directly shot at. He vividly remembers, “They kept firing continuously for about 10 seconds.”
The shooting resulted in the deaths of 6 individuals and injury of 8 others. Investigators described the scene as extremely gruesome, with some of the phone scam workers’ bodies being broken. Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were buried on-site by the armed personnel.
It wasn’t until January to July 2024 that the six Burmese armed personnel involved in the case and the mastermind behind the scenes, Lin Jian, were gradually apprehended.
