The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, known as the Oscars of the global culinary world, have been announced for 2024, with one European country’s gastronomic achievements standing out prominently.
The list of the 2024 World’s 50 Best Restaurants was revealed at an awards ceremony held on Wednesday night at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. Barcelona’s Disfrutar took the top honor. This Spanish restaurant, which ranked second last year, is owned and operated by chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casanas.
You might have the opportunity to visit Disfrutar and taste the imaginative dishes crafted by these talented chefs, such as the Panchino doughnut filled with caviar, frozen Spanish gazpacho sandwich, and squab.
Apart from Disfrutar topping the list, Spain has five other restaurants on the list, with three of them in the top five.
Ranked second is Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, not far from the port city of Bilbao in Spain. Under the leadership of chef Victor Arguinzoniz, this restaurant’s barbecued dishes are unparalleled, highlighting the quality of ingredients like the Palamós red prawns that can be enjoyed simply grilled.
In the realm of gastronomy, Paris is an indispensable destination. The restaurant Table by Bruno Verjus in the capital of France clinched the third position. While Spain boasts six restaurants on the list, Paris and Bangkok tied for the most restaurants from a single city, each having four. Gaggan Anand is the best-performing restaurant from the Thai capital, ranking ninth.
In addition to Paris and Bangkok, Tokyo also fared well with three awarded restaurants, with Sézanne in Tokyo being named the best restaurant in Asia for 2024, ranking 15th.
Hong Kong boasts two impressive restaurants on the list. Wing is the highest-ranking newcomer at the 20th spot, while The Chairman made the biggest leap, moving from 50th place last year to 26th.
As for the host country, the United States, two restaurants made it to this year’s list of the 50 best restaurants.
Atomix in New York City took the sixth spot this year, a two-position improvement from last year. SingleThread in Healdsburg, Sonoma Valley, California, secured the 47th ranking.
The list is compiled based on the votes of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, comprised of 1,080 international culinary experts (including food writers and chefs) from 27 regions worldwide.
