Before US President Trump’s visit to China in May, the Hong Kong group “NSW Hong Kong Friends” held a petition signing event in front of the Sydney Town Hall on May 2, urging President Trump to pressure the Chinese Communist Party to release the founder of Hong Kong’s Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai.
The event was hosted by Lhamo and Luna, who read out the contents of the petition, “We earnestly ask Mr. President to take care of himself, to continue leading the American people in combating the evil forces of communism, leftism, and Islamic extremism, to ensure the prosperity and happiness of the American nation, benefiting people worldwide with the courage and strength of the United States!”
“We urge Mr. President to request Xi Jinping to release Jimmy Lai during his visit to China,” the letter stated.
The petition also mentioned the Hong Kong government’s intention to seize Jimmy Lai’s assets and pointed out that the world cannot tolerate the CCP’s wrongdoings anymore. “The Hong Kong government is planning to seize Jimmy Lai’s assets, exerting every effort to oppress dissenters! I believe Mr. President is very aware of the disasters the CCP has brought to the Chinese people and neighboring ethnic groups since coming to power in 1949. The world cannot tolerate the CCP’s wrongdoings anymore!”
Dan, who witnessed the violence against Hong Kong protesters by pro-CCP thugs during the 2019 anti-extradition protests while in Hong Kong, also participated in the event. “Seeing the thugs using those special sticks to hit the knees of children.”
He expressed his admiration for Hong Kong’s freedom and rule of law, which he learned about through classmates and the media while on the mainland, stating, “I slowly came to understand and yearn for the freedom and rule of law atmosphere in Hong Kong.”
As a Christian, Dan has a profound understanding of the evil of the CCP. He said, “What is the biggest evil of the CCP? It doesn’t allow people to be good, it makes people become evil like it.”
He mentioned that one of the best decisions he made in his life was not joining the Chinese Communist Party because he did not want to get involved with evil, as “If you get involved, you will also become evil. Therefore, rejecting evil leads to eternal life.”
He urged the people on the mainland and the global Chinese community to reject the CCP, stating that if everyone disobeys, the CCP will collapse naturally. “It (CCP) makes us do what we don’t want to do. If everyone disobeys, the CCP will definitely collapse.” He called on the world to eradicate the CCP, saying, “I have always said it (CCP) is a cancer of the world. If it is not eradicated, it will be against natural justice.”
Ms. Wong, who attended the event, described the Hong Kong government’s intention to seize Jimmy Lai’s assets as “a very bad decision.” Hong Kong, once attracting many international investors due to its freedom and rule of law, now with the CCP regime’s arbitrary arrests and seizure of assets, she questioned who would have the confidence to invest in Hong Kong.
Ms. Wong emphasized the importance of safeguarding institutions in Hong Kong, as without such protection, it would be akin to being “harvested like leeks” as seen on the mainland, where many domestic investors are being “harvested” by the CCP.
