Wu Hao from Chinese Academy of Sciences Investigated, Former Secretary-General of National Development and Reform Commission of Communist Party of China

Recently, according to official reports from the Chinese Communist Party, Wu Hao, the Director of the Center for Science and Technology Innovation Development at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is under review and investigation. Wu Hao is the 24th senior official to be implicated in a disciplinary investigation since the beginning of this year. He previously served as the Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission of the Communist Party of China.

On April 25th, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the CPC announced that Wu Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Center for Science and Technology Innovation Development at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

Wu Hao is the 24th senior official to be publicly announced for review and investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission since the beginning of this year.

According to his public resume, Wu Hao was born in November 1971 in Luzhou, Sichuan province. He holds a bachelor’s degree and graduated from the University of Electronic Science and Technology in July 1993.

Wu Hao previously held positions such as Deputy Director of the High-tech Industry Department and Inspector of the High-tech Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission; in September 2018, he became the Director of the High-tech Industry Department and the Innovation and High-tech Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission; in June 2020, he was appointed the Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Director of the Innovation and High-tech Development Department; in February 2023, he became the Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission.

In January 2025, Wu Hao moved to the Chinese Academy of Sciences where he served as the Director of the Center for Science and Technology Innovation Development and the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.

The Center for Science and Technology Innovation Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in May 2019 on the basis of the former Beijing branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The main responsibilities of the center include co-establishing the National Comprehensive Science Center in Huairou, Beijing with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, co-building the Beijing Zhongguancun Science City, fully participating in the construction of Xiong’an New Area, and cooperating with relevant regional institutions.
