In mainland China, there has been a surge in sudden death incidents. Tang Jian, the 55-year-old chairman of Guotong Trust Company, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack.
According to a report by the “Shanghai Securities News” on March 25, Tang Jian, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee and chairman of Guotong Trust, passed away on March 20 due to a sudden heart attack at the age of 55.
Public records show that Tang Jian was born in May 1970, hailing from Hubei province, and coming from the Wuhan Financial Holdings Group. He had been working in the financial sector for a long time and previously served as the secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of Hubei Financial Leasing Company under the Wuhan Financial Holdings Group. In August 2025, Tang Jian was transferred to the position of secretary of the Guotong Trust Communist Party Committee. In December last year, the Hubei Financial Regulatory Bureau approved Tang Jian’s qualifications as a director and chairman of Guotong Trust.
Guotong Trust Company Limited (formerly known as Fangzheng Dongya Trust Company Limited) is a nationwide trust institution headquartered in Wuhan, belonging to state-owned non-banking financial institutions.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been numerous cases of sudden death reported in mainland China, including among young people.
Just yesterday on March 24, Suzhou Fengxue NIO Education Technology Co., Ltd. issued an obituary announcing the sudden death of renowned online education influencer Zhang Xuefeng due to a sudden cardiac arrest, at the young age of 41.
Between January and February this year, several young lawyers have passed away: on February 27, Nanjing lawyer Xu Xuehan died at the age of 36; on February 25, Shanghai lawyer Chen Weiwei died at the age of 43; on February 6, Beijing lawyer Sun Tao from Long’an (Nanjing) Law Firm passed away due to a sudden accident at the age of 35; on January 18, Shanghai lawyer Yan Yafeng from Pumao Law Firm passed away due to a sudden illness at the age of 48; on January 2, Zhejiang lawyer Su Ze from Guangzheng Law Firm passed away at the age of 36.
Mainland Chinese media have not disclosed further details about the sudden deaths due to illnesses. However, many people online suspect that these deaths may be related to adverse effects of the COVID-19 vaccine.
In January, some mainland Chinese individuals revealed to Dajiyuan that as the year drew to a close, China was experiencing another peak in the epidemic, with major hospitals and clinics overcrowded, while the authorities concealed information. People and funeral industry workers in various regions disclosed that many elderly people had passed away, and there were also many sudden deaths among young people. Funeral homes and crematoriums were extremely busy, and some funeral homes were continuously recruiting personnel.
