On March 18th, the news of the tragic death of Wang Jingjuan, an official from the Zhangjiagang Municipal Committee Inspection Team in Jiangsu Province, and her husband at their home in the Yanghu No.1 Community in Zhangjiagang City spread. The incident took place in what is claimed to be the most expensive residential area in the locality, Yanghu No.1 Community. Due to information being sealed off, the details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
Reports circulated online on March 18th that a homicide had occurred within the Yanghu No.1 Community in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province. Wang Jingjuan, former mayor of Nanfeng Town and head of the third inspection team of the municipal committee, and her husband were found murdered at their residence. On the same day, photos were taken of police cars parked at the entrance of their home. The motive behind the crime remains unknown at present.
Information related to the incident is not available on mainland Chinese websites. However, a search on Douyin (TikTok) for Zhangjiagang reveals numerous related search records associated with the homicide case.
The news has been circulating overseas, with online sources stating that Wang Jingjuan previously served as the mayor of Nanfeng Town and was later transferred to work in Jinfeng Town. She was also connected to Yonggang, Jiangsu’s second-largest privately owned steel enterprise.
According to the Zhangjiagang City government website, reports from 2022 and 2023 indicate that Wang Jingjuan served as the head of the third inspection team of the municipal committee.
A real estate agent named Dong Yuan (pseudonym) who sells properties in the Yanghu No.1 Community informed a reporter from Dajiyuan on March 19th, “There was indeed a homicide in the area. The news has been sealed off, but in due time, everyone will naturally come to know of it.”
He mentioned that the Yanghu No.1 Community is divided into two sections, East and West, with affluent residents living inside. The incident took place in the second phase of the West section. If one property in a row faces issues, it could affect the selling price of the neighboring properties. The current homeowners who are trying to sell their properties feel uneasy and can only hope that time will ease the situation. He added, “We are not in a position to inquire about the specifics of the incident.”
A local resident Mr. Yang mentioned, “A couple in the Yanghu No.1 Community were killed, but the details are unclear as the news has been blocked. They were government officials residing in a high-priced residential area in Zhangjiagang. Not revealing the news would cause public outrage, and I heard the surname was Wang.”
Another local resident, Xiao Wang, told reporters, “I heard that two people died, but the exact circumstances are unknown. Yesterday, I saw comments related to the incident on Douyin, but they were quickly taken down.”
Yanghu No.1 Community is known as the most luxurious and upscale residential area in Zhangjiagang, consisting of a total of 428 units. It was opened for sale in 2011 and completed in 2013, with the Yanghu extending into the interior of the community.
The incident has sparked discussions among netizens online:
“It’s probably caused by internal strife or unequal distribution of spoils.”
“This is much more serious than reckless driving that harms ordinary citizens! As long as you are not venting anger on innocent people due to incompetence, in my heart, you are like Zhang Kekou and Yang Jia!”
“The days of profiting quietly within and outside the system are gone forever, leaving behind intense battles for the few remaining benefits. Previously, everyone could make money peacefully, but now with limited resources, it’s a scramble to grab whatever remains. This benefits local security companies, criminal organizations, warlords like Zhang Xianzhong, and industries related to the Liangshan Heroes.”
“With such a background, incidents like this can happen even in top luxury residences. How deep must the connections be behind the scenes?”
“The person eliminated was the head of the inspection team, most likely a case of officials turning on each other.”
