New York’s “Metropolitan Taiwan Day” to be Held on 7/26, Early Bird Tickets Available Before 6/26.

New York Taiwan Chamber of Commerce announced on May 15th that they will join forces with the New Jersey Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, the New York Taiwan Youth Chamber of Commerce, and over 20 Taiwanese American organizations to hold the “Mets Taiwan Day” event at Citi Field in New York on July 26th. This event aims to gather overseas compatriots and the public to watch the Major League Baseball (MLB) game between the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the New York Taiwan Chamber of Commerce. The event, centered around baseball, aims to unite the Taiwanese community, strengthen Taiwan-U.S. exchanges, and demonstrate to mainstream American society Taiwan’s values of peace, fair competition, and collaborative spirit.

Limited edition commemorative jerseys will be available this year, incorporating elements of the Republic of China flag in the design, with “TAIWAN No.1” printed on the back, and a special Taiwanese “Betel nut bag” will also be included as a gift, available while supplies last.

“Mets Taiwan Day” has a history of over 20 years and is organized by the New York Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Taiwanese organizations for the fifth consecutive year. The event combines baseball games and community interactions, making it an important annual exchange event for Taiwanese compatriots in the United States.

Baseball has long been loved by the people of Taiwan, from winning the World Baseball Classic to the thrilling performances in international competitions. Baseball has become an important part of Taiwanese culture and a significant “soft language” for Taiwan to communicate with the world. Through participating in MLB games, overseas Taiwanese not only express their connection to their homeland but also showcase the vibrancy and unity of the Taiwanese community.

One of the highlights of this year’s event is the match between the Dodgers’ Japanese star Shohei Ohtani and the Mets’ star player Juan Soto. As the event coincides with the “Japan Day” activities in the New York area, it also reflects the friendly atmosphere between Taiwan and Japan. Shohei Ohtani has long been beloved by Taiwanese fans, making this game even more noteworthy.

During the event, there will be a ceremony to present the “Community Unsung Heroes Award,” recognizing overseas compatriots and volunteers who have silently served the community for a long time, to encourage more people to get involved in public service.
