In a tragic incident that has sparked public attention, a village woman in Qiaolou Township, Ningling County, Shangqiu, Henan Province tragically drowned after falling into a pit toilet while using it.

On October 7th, a story about a woman in Henan Shangqiu falling into a pit toilet and drowning caught people’s attention. A widely circulated video on the mainland internet showed a woman from Han Zhuang in Ningling County accidentally falling into a pit toilet, and sadly, she was found dead when she was rescued.

The video depicted a crowd gathered at the scene. The person who shared the video revealed that the deceased woman was from Han Zhuang.

According to a villager in the village, a woman did indeed fall into the pit toilet and drowned. He only knew that the woman was less than 50 years old and was a resident of the village.

An employee from the village committee of Wulou Village, to which Han Zhuang belongs, also confirmed that a woman fell into the pit toilet and drowned.

On October 7th, a firefighter from Ningling County stated that the woman was unconscious when rescued. They handed the woman over to her family, and the subsequent situation is unclear.

The tragedy has caught the attention of netizens, with many expressing sorrow and regret, hoping that the woman can rest in peace.

In some parts of mainland China, the traditional pit toilets, known as “pit latrines,” are still in use, with two wooden planks placed over the pit.

Some netizens pointed out that the pit toilet was as deep as a person’s height.

There was a netizen comment mentioning that if it was a public restroom, it could be quite deep, almost the height of a person, recalling encounters with sanitation workers cleaning the pit in winter.

Many netizens expressed their feelings saying that in life, one can never predict accidents or what the next day may bring. The simplicity of using a toilet is something no one would expect could lead to someone losing their life.

Another netizen remarked that this incident was just one of the countless ways one could die, causing deep sighs, ruling out criminal cases and sudden illnesses, attributing it to sheer bad luck.

One person shared a personal childhood experience about falling into a manure pit while climbing a tree to pick longan fruit in their village. Although not deep and manageable to climb out, the memory of the incident still leaves them with a loss of appetite.
