Recently, in Huludao, Liaoning Province, a collapse accident occurred at the construction site of the Country Garden project, resulting in 3 deaths. The incident was not reported until a week after it happened on April 6, and briefly trended on social media before being taken down.
According to a notification from the Office of Safety Production Management Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the Chinese Communist Party on April 10, during the process of canal renovation at the Country Garden project in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, a landslide occurred, causing 3 deaths.
Reported by the Netease account “Yan Shu Lou Channel,” at that time, construction workers were conducting underground trench operations when the soil suddenly collapsed near the canal. Workers nearby were engulfed by the soil before they could react. Nearby construction workers and rescue personnel rushed to the scene to assist. Despite their efforts, three workers tragically lost their lives due to the massive amount of collapsed soil.
Afterward, local emergency departments stated that a preliminary investigation suggested the accident may have been caused by improper excavation operations, inadequate drainage measures, and lack of effective on-site supervision during construction.
Country Garden Group is China’s largest developer of new urban housing and one of the top ten real estate companies in China. However, this is not the first time Country Garden has faced issues.
On February 7, 2025, in Jianguo County, Hunan Province, part of the underground garage of Country Garden Cambridge County experienced issues with outer concrete peeling off from some pillars, and internal steel bars bending. Many residents packed their belongings and evacuated overnight.
On January 19, 2025, Building 22 of the Tianchen residential area in Yuanzhou District, Guyuan City, experienced sinking foundations and cracks in the building expansion joints, leading to the relocation of all residents on the same day.
On May 16, 2020, a construction elevator accident at a Country Garden site in Yulin City, Guangxi, resulted in the deaths of 6 individuals.
In October 2022, a collapse accident occurred during the construction of the West Lake Impression project in Zhangzhou, Fujian, resulting in the death of one person.
On July 26, 2018, a collapse occurred at the City of Light project construction site in Lu’an, Anhui, at Country Garden, resulting in 6 deaths and multiple injuries.
On June 24, 2018, a formwork collapse accident at a construction site in Fengxian District, Shanghai, Country Garden residential area, led to 1 death and 9 injuries.
