56-year-old Ekin Cheng says he will no longer act in movies, “Embarrassing reason” sparks discussions

Taiwanese artist Ivy Ling, 56 years old, announced on May 1st during a live broadcast that she will no longer be acting. Ling explained that although she is at an age where she could play grandmother roles, she feels that she doesn’t fit the image of a typical grandmother character. Her self-proclaimed “awkward appearance” sparked discussions and debates among fans and the public.

Since her performances in the movies “I Am the Queen” and “Love Story” in 2015, Ivy Ling has not taken on any acting roles. During the live broadcast on May 1st, she interacted with fans, expressing, “I don’t really feel like going out to act anymore. It’s not that I don’t like acting, but because I love acting too much, and I can’t secure good roles. After all, my age is catching up, and my appearance is quite awkward, you know? I don’t look like someone’s grandmother, yet I’m actually at that grandmotherly age.”

Ling further shared that another reason for her decision is that her husband, actor Qin Hao, has been away from home for work, and she doesn’t want to leave their daughter alone by taking on acting projects. She recalled her own childhood, where despite her mother’s love for her, their relationship was distant due to her mother’s work commitments.

Although Ivy Ling’s words resonate with a sense of resignation, some netizens commented, “She could play a mother-in-law or mother role,” “She probably doesn’t need the money,” “She seems to be saying that even though she’s older, she still feels young.”

With her age-defying appearance, Ivy Ling is often praised by fans for her “clarity.” Comments such as “Her appearance indeed doesn’t convey a grandmotherly feel. She might suit a wealthy grandmother or a countryside grandma, but not the typical family grandmother persona.”

Known in the entertainment industry for her skincare routine, Ivy Ling is dubbed the “beautiful witch.” The meticulously groomed artist surprised fans during a recent live stream when she leaned in close to the camera, revealing some white hair. Fans exclaimed in shock, “Sister also has white hair now,” “First time seeing sister with white hair,” and some even jokingly referred to her as “grandma.”

In response to these comments, Ivy Ling displayed a high level of emotional intelligence and humor, replying, “Grandchild, so obedient,” and candidly stating, “Yes, there is a bit of gray hair. I don’t want to dye it.” Embracing the reality of having white hair, she jokingly told fans, “The most romantic thing I’ve said is growing old slowly together with all of you.”

After her second marriage to mainland Chinese actor Qin Hao in 2015, Ivy Ling now has a 7-year-old daughter nicknamed “Xiaomili” (Little Grain). Becoming a mother at the age of 46, she emphasizes spending more time with her child. Besides focusing on skincare, she maintains a disciplined diet, exercises regularly, and strives to enhance her physical fitness.

On March 4th, Ivy Ling celebrated her 56th birthday. During an advanced birthday party, she wore a crown-like headband, dressed in a romantic white gown, resembling a princess from a fairytale. Her ageless appearance makes it challenging for people to guess her actual age.
