In mainland China, a man fell for a fraudulent message promising him a lottery win of 90 million RMB on the internet, and rushed to Beijing from another city to claim his prize. However, he lost contact with his family for a staggering 3 months. After an investigation by the authorities, it was discovered that he had left Beijing and traveled to Inner Mongolia to herd sheep. Along the way, he lost his phone and ID, got lost, and even collapsed from hunger at one point, but was fortunately rescued by local villagers.
According to reports from mainland Chinese media, a man named Zhao went to Beijing and failed to contact his family for an extended period, causing his relatives to worry about his well-being. They reported him missing to the police. The family explained that Zhao had received a fake winning message online claiming he had won 90 million RMB, and believing it to be true, he hurried to Beijing to “claim his prize.”
During the investigation, it was revealed that upon arriving in Beijing, Zhao was informed that the “90 million RMB winning message” online was a scam, and he was advised to return home. Subsequently, the police were able to track Zhao’s movements through surveillance and discovered that he went off the grid at Beijing West Railway Station.
Further investigation showed that during his period of being out of contact, Zhao came into contact with a labor intermediary and was later sent to Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia to work as a sheepherder. However, the police could only find Zhao’s lost identification documents in the area but not the man himself. Eventually, Zhao was located in Wengniute Banner, Inner Mongolia.
It was found through the investigation that Zhao had no previous experience herding sheep and eventually left his work location. He lost his phone and got lost on the grassland, leading to him collapsing due to exhaustion by the roadside.
Local villagers discovered Zhao and rescued him, providing shelter and care. Subsequently, he stayed in the area to work in agriculture. Currently, Zhao has reunited with his family after returning home.
