Dubai Plane Hijacking Case: Co-Pilot with History of Banned Flight

A terror attack incident occurred on Wednesday, September 30th, on a Dubai-bound flight has recently revealed the identity of the attacker.

According to the Saudi Arabian media outlet Al Arabiya’s English channel on October 2nd, the identity of the co-pilot of the Dubai Airline has been confirmed as “Hamam Alhamami”.

Combining information from various sources, a rough profile of this individual can be pieced together. Hamami is a citizen of Oman, born in the United Arab Emirates to an Omani father and Syrian mother. He himself had lived in the UAE for many years.

Reports from American media like CNN disclose that Hamami obtained a degree in Aviation Management in 2023 through distance learning from Buckinghamshire New University in the UK. He later worked at Oman Air for seven years. A regional diplomat also informed CNN that due to concerns over Hamami’s extremist views, Oman Air revoked his flight training qualifications, leading to his reassignment within the company.

Hamami resigned in February 2025 and subsequently joined Royal Air Maroc in June 2025, leaving the position in January 2026. He then worked at Dubai Airline for 8 months.

Sources told the Wall Street Journal that despite being banned from flying by Oman Air due to his radical ideology, Hamami was still hired by Dubai Airline (flydubai).

CNN’s analysis of Hamami’s deleted Twitter account revealed him as a devout religious follower with misogynistic tendencies.

In his deleted posts, Hamami discussed the difficulties his mother faced in finding a wife for him, requiring her to adhere to his conditions of wearing a veil and quitting her job post-marriage.

His posts also criticized mixed-gender workplaces, stating that such environments have a corrupting influence on women. In a post from January 2022, he wrote, “How many respectable, devout girls have been ruined, manipulated in mixed-gender work environments?”

This attack on a Dubai-bound flight has attracted global attention.

On September 30, the Dubai Airline FZ1073 flight from Dubai, UAE, to Tel Aviv, Israel, with around 180 passengers onboard. During the flight, the Omani co-pilot abruptly attacked the Indian captain with a knife inside the cockpit and attempted to crash the plane.

The aircraft experienced a rapid descent of over ten thousand feet at one point. In a critical moment, the captain managed to open the cockpit door, and passengers along with the crew rushed in to subdue the attacker. Two off-duty pilots on board took control of the aircraft, eventually making an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

A senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu described the incident as an act of terrorism.

Netanyahu stated, “The attacker has been brainwashed with Islamic extremism. He came here to attack passengers on the plane.”

Netanyahu also mentioned that Israel is investigating whether the attacker acted alone or in collaboration with others.
