In recent days, there was an incident of a child almost getting trapped in the Enjoy S9 zero gravity seat. Fortunately, the parent sitting in the driver’s seat was able to pull the child out in time. Hongmeng Intelligent Travel responded that the protective mechanism was not activated due to the threshold not being met, sparking widespread attention on social media.
A video featuring the “Enjoy S9 zero gravity seat” has been circulating on social media platforms recently. The video shows a man with a child experiencing the Enjoy S9’s zero gravity seat in an exhibition hall. When he activated the function, the passenger seat began to fold forward and press down, with the child sitting on it.
The parent repeatedly called out, “Stop, stop, Xiaoyi (voice assistant),” “Turn off zero gravity mode,” but the voice assistant kept responding, “The current status does not support pausing.” Finally, the parent managed to pull the child out of the seat in time.
The Enjoy S9 is a high-end new energy sedan under Hongmeng Intelligent Travel, priced at about 400,000 RMB, with the zero gravity seat being one of its key selling points.
On May 5th, Hongmeng Intelligent Travel released a statement regarding the viral video involving the Enjoy S9 zero gravity seat, addressing the incident.
Hongmeng Intelligent Travel stated that they had verified the situation on-site promptly and conducted technical replays and safety tests in various scenarios. After official technical verification, it was concluded that the reason for the non-activation of the anti-trapping function was that the scene in the viral video did not reach the threshold for triggering the anti-trapping function. Clearly, the conclusion indicated that the system did not malfunction.
However, Hongmeng Intelligent Travel also admitted, “We have incorporated valuable suggestions from everyone into our product optimization plan.” This implies an acknowledgment that the current safety mechanism may require enhancement.
This incident quickly drew widespread attention on the internet.
A focus on new energy vehicle safety blogger on Zhihu, “New Energy Safety Technology,” wrote, “Whatever seems suspicious, whatever potential danger, is a safety event. No need to say more, recall it. With this quality, no matter how much you try to whitewash it, it won’t work!”
On May 7th, the official media “People’s Daily” unexpectedly published an article titled “People’s Comment: Three Questions on the Enjoy S9 Zero Gravity Seat Trapping Incident,” raising three questions.
Firstly, questioning Hongmeng Intelligent Travel: Can the so-called “multiple safety protections” provide the users with bottom-line protection? Secondly, questioning the industry: Can safety redundancy reflect brand warmth? Thirdly, questioning the adult in the video: Did they overlook potential risks?
Numerous netizens commented, “People’s Daily’s official classification, please take note,” “If it were me, I wouldn’t dare to ask like that even if I were beaten to death. As always, safety is the greatest luxury. I hope all car manufacturers can prioritize safety to the extreme; safety always comes first.”
“Products are subpar, all relying on Huawei’s marketing. The car’s infotainment system is poorly done, claiming to reach Level 3, but it’s not up to par in reality. Marketing expenditure is excessive.”
“A missed anti-trapping threshold may just be a string of numbers in the code world, but in reality, it could affect a child’s safety and a family’s fate. Hopefully, this incident can serve as a solemn reminder: all technologies running towards ‘leading’ should look back and see if safety is keeping up.”
Public information shows that Hongmeng Intelligent Travel is an intelligent automobile technology ecosystem alliance led by Huawei, evolved from the Huawei Intelligent Selection Car model, responsible for product definition, marketing, and sales.
