According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck Beichuan County, Mianyang City at 11:01 on February 8th, with an epicenter depth of 14 kilometers located at 32.04 degrees north latitude and 104.56 degrees east longitude.
Local media reported that on the morning of February 8th, a resident in Beichuan County, Mr. Liu, felt the tremors but reported no damage or fallen objects in his home.
Beichuan County suffered severe casualties during the devastating “5.12” earthquake in 2008, leading to the relocation of the county seat. Since then, sporadic earthquakes have also occurred in the area. Additionally, the China Earthquake Networks Center officially recorded a 3.8 magnitude earthquake in Luding County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan at 14:06 on February 8th, with an epicenter depth of 10 kilometers located at 29.52 degrees north latitude and 101.97 degrees east longitude.
Residents in Chengdu reported noticeable tremors in the main urban area of the city.
Within a 10-kilometer radius of the epicenter, villages like Qianghuopeng and Daozhongqiao can be found, while there are no towns within 20 kilometers. Townships within 50 kilometers include Moxi, Detuo, Yanzigou, Dewei, Lengqiao, Gongga Mountain, Xinglong, Luqiao, and Liuba.
The epicenter is located 50 kilometers from Shimian County, 51 kilometers from Luding County, 53 kilometers from Kangding City, 69 kilometers from Hanyuan County, 73 kilometers from Jiulong County, and 59 kilometers from the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, with a distance of 239 kilometers from Chengdu City.
The average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 4,283 meters above sea level.
According to the rapid catalog of earthquakes within 200 kilometers of the epicenter over the past five years, a total of 124 earthquakes with a magnitude of 3 or above have occurred, with the largest being a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Luding County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan on September 5, 2022 (13 kilometers from the epicenter of this seismic event).
Recent consecutive moderate earthquakes in Sichuan, Gansu, and other regions have drawn widespread attention.
At 11:01 on February 8th, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Beichuan County, Mianyang (depth: 14 kilometers), causing tremors felt by residents in Mianyang and Jiangyou.
Similarly, at 14:06 on the same day, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Luding County, Garze Prefecture (depth: 10 kilometers), with tremors felt in Chengdu and Luding.
