A mother and son in the United States both participated in the graduation ceremony at Texas Christian University on May 9th, where they both received their master’s degree certificates from the university. This may be the best Mother’s Day gift this mother has ever received.
The university announced that the mother-son duo are Kyle Fields and his mother Brandi Fields. During the graduation ceremony on May 9th, Kyle received a Master of Arts degree, while Brandi received a Master of Business Administration degree.
Brandi said, “Sharing this moment with my son is something I never imagined. We supported each other through late nights and strict deadlines. For our family, stepping onto the stage together is an incredible and meaningful moment, especially on Mother’s Day weekend.”
Reflecting on her experience of returning to campus for classes, she said, “Returning to the classroom after so many years was a challenge. But learning alongside professionals from different backgrounds with rich experiences was very beneficial for me. The insights I gained from professors and classmates were incredibly valuable.”
As for Kyle, before pursuing his master’s degree at the college of arts and sciences at the university, he had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from another institution. During his time in the master’s program at the university, he served as the equipment manager for the athletic department.
This year, he made exciting progress working with the university’s women’s beach volleyball team, as the team won its first-ever national championship this month.
He mentioned that his responsibilities involved all equipment and clothing needs of the team. He was in charge of procurement, budgeting, forecasting, managing player inventory, training and game day schedules, laundry, clothing maintenance, and working with various suppliers.
He said, “It’s a demanding role with many moving parts, but seeing the team win the national championship made it all worth it. It’s a memorable way to end my college career.”
Despite dedicating a lot of time to equipment service work, Kyle remained committed to his academic goals as a graduate student. Looking ahead, he has set his sights on grander ambitions.
He mentioned, “Sports have always been a significant part of my life. After graduation, I intend to continue working in the sports industry, with the ultimate goal of working at Nike.”
Nike’s current CEO, Elliott Hill, has a similar story. He started as a student in the sports department at Texas Christian University before joining the company, eventually rising to the position of CEO.
