Barber’s Good Deed Praised after discovering nearly 130,000 cash on Bank of America ATM

A windfall could completely change one’s financial situation, but an ordinary American citizen has shown the importance of values over wealth. A 37-year-old hairdresser from Texas unexpectedly found a staggering $128,514 in cash on top of an ATM, and instead of keeping the money, he went out of his way to seek out the rightful owner, earning high praise from local law enforcement.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. on August 3rd. The hairdresser and a friend were at a Bank of America ATM on West Main Street in Lewisville, Texas to make a withdrawal. However, to their surprise, they spotted several bags sitting on top of the ATM.

Upon inspection, they discovered one bag contained a whopping $128,514 in cash, along with a smaller bag containing 19 checks.

Facing a six-figure sum that could mesmerize almost anyone, the hairdresser chose to find the rightful owner immediately. Noticing that one of the bags had a label from the fast-food chain Chick-fil-A, he thought it might be a misplaced deposit from the adjacent store and promptly drove there to inquire. After the manager clarified the funds did not belong to them, he called 911 without hesitation.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement meticulously counted the cash twice manually and verified the total amount using a digital bill counter, confirming that the cash in the bag matched the bank receipt—$128,514 in total, not a penny less. The funds were then properly sealed and taken back to the police evidence room for safekeeping.

An investigation by the police revealed that the money belonged to Bank of America and was being handled by their cash management service provider, Brinks. It turned out that a Brinks technician had accidentally forgotten the entire bag of cash on top of the ATM while performing maintenance. Law enforcement confirmed that there were no signs of criminal activity at the scene, and Bank of America successfully retrieved the lost property.

“I’ve never had a case like this before, not one. ” Lewisville Police Detective Gina Miller, who has handled numerous cases of returning wallets and identification documents, expressed her amazement to CBS, stating that returning six-figure cash in its entirety is exceptionally rare. Police Chief Brook Rollins also highly praised the man for his decisiveness and integrity, saying, “He didn’t even bat an eye, he simply took the money to where he believed it belonged.”

Chief Rollins stated that this incident perfectly exemplified the police department’s reliance on the community, “We are half of the equation, and the other half is the community.” Although the modest hairdresser did not seek any reward, the Lewisville Police Department plans to hold a private recognition ceremony to honor his invaluable honesty.
