The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will celebrate its 5th anniversary on August 16th (Sunday) with a day of free admission, featuring film screenings, ribbon-making, dance workshops, and more.
According to the city news agency, the museum announced that visitors can enjoy free entry from 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday on a first-come, first-served basis without the need for advance reservations.
Guests can explore various galleries and exhibitions at the museum, including “PONYO” from Studio Ghibli.
Activities include ribbon-making from 11 am to 4 pm, where participants can create personalized ribbons inspired by their favorite movies.
At 1 pm and 3 pm, the museum will collaborate with Bootleg Linedance to host beginner-friendly dance workshops at the Walt Disney Company Piazza. Each workshop will last about 30 minutes.
The museum announced that Fresh Fruit by Ruth will offer Mexican street corn (esquites) and fresh fruit juice (aguas frescas) from 11 am to 4 pm.
Fanny’s, the museum’s restaurant, will offer tacos and other dishes for purchase from noon to 5 pm.
At 2 pm, the David Geffen Theater will screen Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film “Munich” on 35mm film for free. The movie, starring Eric Bana, follows an Israeli Mossad team tracking down and eliminating the perpetrators of the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre of Israeli hostages. The film received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is located at 6067 Wilshire Blvd., and will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday.
