In the United States, the question of whether it is worth going to college has always been a topic of discussion in various sectors of society. The cost of attending college is high, and if graduates are unable to find their ideal job in a timely manner, the cost-effectiveness of college education may decrease. A recent report from the professional networking platform LinkedIn has revealed the top 50 universities in the United States that provide the strongest workplace advantages for graduates, serving as a reference for aspiring students.
LinkedIn’s evaluation criteria are based on how these universities help students achieve long-term career success. Utilizing big data from this professional networking platform, LinkedIn ranked the top 50 schools in the United States.
The report ranked universities in five dimensions using LinkedIn data: employment placement, internships and recruiting demand, career achievements, strength of professional networks, and breadth of knowledge.
Employment placement data tracked recent graduates from 2020 to 2025, analyzing their entry into full-time jobs or graduate programs within a year of graduation. The indicator of the strength of professional networks measured the level of connection among recent graduates, as well as their connections with alumni and current students.
Andrew Seaman, a freelance editor responsible for employment and career development at LinkedIn, stated, “We found that today’s students have a different perspective on career success compared to previous generations. They are eager to enhance their skills, expand their networks, and prepare for the rapidly changing labor market.”
“In today’s slower-paced job market environment, professional networking can play a vital role. While skills and experience are still crucial, a strong alumni network can lend a helping hand throughout one’s career, whether through internships, mentorship, professional guidance, or accessing new job opportunities,” Seaman added.
Compared to last year’s report, 43 schools (86% of the total) made the list again. LinkedIn explained that this indicates the comprehensive strength of schools that continue to assist graduates in achieving long-term career success remains solid.
Seven new schools made their debut on the list, including Amherst College (ranked 37th), Claremont McKenna College (40th), Washington University in St. Louis (42nd), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (45th), Davidson College (47th), Williams College (48th), and Bowdoin College (49th).
The top ten rankings saw little change compared to last year’s report, with Ivy League schools holding six positions. Princeton University and Duke University maintained the top two spots. Harvard University climbed to 3rd place, Dartmouth College to 5th, and Yale University re-entered the top ten at 9th place.
