Construction Accident at a Reservoir Tunnel in Shaodong, Hunan, Resulting in at Least Three Deaths

Two accidents occurred in two days in Hunan, China. In one incident, a construction accident happened in the ShaoDong Reservoir Tunnel, officially reported to have led to the deaths of three people. In another incident, a hydrofluoric acid tanker truck rear-ended another vehicle in the Nanyue District of Hengyang, causing a hazardous chemical leak. Authorities stated that no casualties have been found in this accident so far. The official reports for both incidents did not include any on-site videos or images, with only textual information available online.

According to the ShaoDong City Water Resources Bureau in Hunan province, a personnel trapped incident occurred in the construction section of the Thaofeng canal II tunnel exit pipe at the Zishui Quangmutang Reservoir Project last night around 8:50 pm on May 29th. At 2:06 am on May 30th, all three trapped individuals were rescued from the tunnel but unfortunately were pronounced dead despite rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, the Emergency Management Bureau of Nanyue District in Hengyang, Hunan, reported today, on May 30th, that at 7:24 am, a hydrofluoric acid tanker truck traveling from Jiujiang, Jiangxi to Hengyang, Hunan, rear-ended another vehicle at a traffic light on Hengshan Road in Nanyue Town, causing a hazardous chemical leak. Authorities have stated that no casualties have been reported as of yet.

Hydrofluoric acid is a highly corrosive and dangerous chemical, surpassing sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid in terms of danger. It has a wider range of corrosion capabilities, capable of dissolving metals, glass, silicon-containing substances, and even the strongest human bones.

It is worth noting that for both incidents, the Chinese Communist Party’s official media outlets did not release any videos or pictures, only providing textual updates. Due to the Party’s tendency to conceal information, the actual casualty situations in the aforementioned accidents remain to be verified.
