Hong Kong actress Cai Sibei has been publicly praised by Stephen Chow (Sing Yeh) as “the actress who fights most like Bruce Lee” for showcasing solid martial arts skills and essence in “Kung Fu Girls’ Soccer.”
In the movie, Cai Sibei plays a blind massage therapist and reserve goalkeeper named “Patty Ba,” displaying a highly dramatic multiple identity transformation. Initially introduced as a blind masseuse, she later serves as a military doctor within the team. Her fiery temperament and distinct personality often lead to comical situations where she inadvertently injures others due to not being able to see clearly, creating numerous hilarious moments.
After the starting goalkeeper is injured and leaves the field, she courageously steps in as the substitute goalkeeper. Precisely because she is blind, she becomes immune to the opponent team’s illusionary tricks, transforming into the “Iron Dragon Gate” guarding the goal, becoming the most crucial role in turning the team’s fortunes and deciding victory or defeat.
In several action scenes in the movie, Cai Sibei pays homage to Bruce Lee, demonstrating powerful punches and fierce eye expressions. During a promotional event in Shenzhen recently, Stephen Chow specially praised her, saying, “To think that there’s an actress who fights so much like Bruce Lee, impressive!” He believed that she portrayed a master for the first time in a way that was truly eye-opening. Cai Sibei revealed that upon hearing such praise from Sing Yeh, she was extremely honored and excited, speechless for a moment, finally expressing her gratitude with two deep bows.
According to reports from Hong Kong media, when Stephen Chow was casting for the movie, Cai Sibei took the initiative to shoot a video at her own expense to offer herself to the production team. Despite not receiving any response for a year or two after the audition, she persisted in diligently practicing kung fu and action scenes, and her efforts eventually paid off.
For meeting Sing Yeh’s expectations, Cai Sibei kept a Bruce Lee figurine in her hotel room during filming. Every day after work, she would chat with the “figurine,” immersing herself in the story and role.
Since its release in mainland China on July 11, “Kung Fu Girls’ Soccer” has been a massive success, with the box office approaching 2 billion RMB. As a result, Cai Sibei has risen to become a “billion-dollar box office actress” and is currently in talks to sign with Stephen Chow, potentially becoming the new generation of “Sing Girl.”
Regarding the recent scandal of some mainland Chinese cinemas attempting to inflate box office numbers through means like “handwritten tickets,” Cai Sibei expressed her deep discontent and sadness during an event in Hong Kong on July 25. Cai Sibei, who debuted as the runner-up of the “Miss Hong Kong Pageant,” bid farewell to TVB on March 12, 2026, after a 13-year contract. In 2020, she won the Best Actress award for her role as Zhao Zhengmei in “Overstepping II,” becoming the first post-90s double Best Actress winner in TVB history.
