On Saturday morning, July 25, a large fire broke out in a house in Flushing, New York, quickly spreading to surrounding buildings and causing at least 21 injuries. Among the injured, a 78-year-old woman is in critical condition.
According to official reports, the fire spread rapidly.
A spokesperson for the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) stated that they received a call at 9:52 a.m. on Saturday reporting a fire in a house on 41st Street near College Point Boulevard in Flushing. The fire escalated quickly, reaching a five-alarm level by 10:40 a.m.
Fire officials mentioned that the fire started on the ground floor of a two-story wooden house with a nearly hundred-year history, located among a row of five buildings. Kevin Woods, the operations commander of the firefighting operation, stated that when firefighters arrived, two of the buildings were already on fire, and the flames quickly spread to the third building.
According to CBS, Woods said, “These five buildings… were built in 1930, all of them are wooden structures with wood frame construction.”
