In the first quarter of 2026, education officials in various locations in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have been successively investigated, with secretaries, principals, and top officials from universities to primary and secondary schools falling from grace.
According to official reports from mainland China and disclosed cases, from January to March this year, anti-corruption and disciplinary inspection commissions in Nanning, Yulin, Qinzhou, and Guigang in Guangxi consecutively announced the investigations of multiple school leaders and education officials.
On January 15, according to the Guangxi Discipline Inspection and Supervision Network, Li Weidong, the former party committee secretary of Guangxi Open University, was seriously disciplined and dismissed from the party and public office. The report revealed that Li Weidong engaged in opportunism within the party, accepted banquets and gifts in violation of regulations, concealed personal matters, exploited his position for personal gain in cadre selection and appointment, mismanaged his relatives, used public power for private gain, engaged in corrupt practices such as power-money transactions, and illegally accepted large sums of money.
On January 26, it was reported on the Guangxi Discipline Inspection and Supervision Network that Qing Yunbo, former member of the party committee and vice president of Guangxi Medical University, and Wang Zhuohua, former deputy secretary of the party committee and dean of Yulin Normal College, were under investigation.
On January 30, as per the news from the discipline inspection and supervision team of the Autonomous Region’s Education Department and the Supervisory Committee of Zhaoping County, Hezhou City, Chen Shiqiang, former director of the Logistics and Construction Department of Yulin Normal College, was investigated.
On February 9, according to news from the Qinzhou Qinnan District Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission, Luo Yaoqiao, party secretary of the Dantang Town Central Primary School in Daping Town, Qinnan District, Qinzhou City, was investigated.
On March 17, it was reported by the Nanning Municipal Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission that Nong Yaoguo, a member of the Communist Party group and deputy director of the Nanning Education Bureau, was under investigation.
On March 26, according to news from the Tan Tao District Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission, Zeng Zhi, party committee secretary of the Third Junior High School in Tan Tao Street, Tan Tao District, Guigang City, was investigated.
On March 27, according to the Ling Shan County Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission, Yu Yonggu, principal of Taiping Middle School in Lingshan County, was investigated.
The investigations of these officials largely revolve around corruption in areas such as cafeteria management, engineering bidding and enrollment, and procurement of goods.
