Costco, a warehouse-style chain store in the United States, is a top choice for many consumers to purchase daily meals, and it often introduces new food items. Recently, a newly released chicken stir-fry noodles has sparked discussions online, with the focus of debate being a social media influencer’s post about the portion of this stir-fry.
Instagram user @costcohotfinds, with 3.5 million followers, stated that she is not affiliated with Costco. She recently posted a video of herself making and tasting Costco’s new “Honey Sesame Chicken Stir Fry” meal, giving it a rating of “10 out of 10” for dinner and mentioning that it is “perfect for kids.”
“Unbelievable amount of chicken inside,” @costcohotfinds said in the video, “Definitely enough for five people, and I only paid $22 when I bought it.”
According to the food website Tasting Table, this meal includes crispy breaded chicken breast pieces, Japanese Yakisoba noodles, a mix of fresh stir-fried vegetables, and two packs of honey sesame sauce. It is currently not available in all stores.
Costco’s official website does not list this product on its prepared food page, nor has it provided an official explanation on the portion size of the meal.
The influencer mentioned in her explanation that she baked the chicken in the oven, cooked the noodles and vegetables on the stove, and finally topped it with honey sesame sauce.
“The baked chicken is extra crispy,” she praised, “The taste of the honey sesame sauce is amazing. I can’t wait to have it again – maybe this weekend.”
However, viewers of the video have expressed doubts about the portion size of this chicken meal.
“This would only be enough for my husband and eldest son,” a user commented.
“It looks like my husband and I need to count ourselves as five people because this portion seems like it would only be enough for the two of us,” another user wrote, adding a laughing face emoji.
“Five people? Obviously you don’t have teenagers in your house,” another person remarked.
Another commenter believed that the dish is not worth the price, stating, “If I buy ingredients and make it at home, I could make double the amount for half the cost.”
“I make it at home, it tastes better, smells better, and is cheaper,” another person agreed.
“Maybe it’s for five people who are on Ozempic (weight loss medication),” a user commented under the portion controversy post.
However, a significant number of customers have shown interest in this dish, considering the portion size to be decent (containing approximately 30 to 40 pieces of chicken), making it a convenient and cost-effective choice for small families.
