The United States police stated that a series of shootings occurred in Missaukee County, northern Michigan, on Friday (14th), resulting in the deaths of 6 people, including the gunman, and leaving another person seriously injured.
According to reports from the Associated Press and Reuters, around 11:40 a.m. local time on August 14th, the police received a report of a shooting at a residence in Lake Township, Missaukee County, located about 170 miles northwest of Detroit.
In a statement posted on social media by the Michigan State Police, it was mentioned that upon receiving the report, law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene to find three individuals dead and a fourth person seriously injured, who was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
The authorities indicated that the suspect, 39-year-old Chad Hickman, had fled the scene before officers arrived. A large-scale manhunt was then launched. Investigative personnel discovered a fourth victim in another residential location.
Law enforcement issued a warning on social platform X, cautioning that Hickman was armed and dangerous, urging the public to avoid the area of the incident.
Subsequently, the police found Hickman’s vehicle near Whitlock Lake and located both Hickman and another deceased individual. It is believed that the suspect died by suicide.
Michigan State Police Sheriff Ashley Miller stated in a released statement, “This tragic event has left the community heartbroken and poses a significant challenge for the personnel involved in the investigation.” Investigative teams will work through the night to clarify the details of each crime scene.
The identities, ages, and genders of the victims have not yet been disclosed by the police, who are currently in the process of notifying their next of kin.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed in a statement that she had been briefed on the shooting incident and is closely monitoring the situation.
She stated, “My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and the community of Missaukee.”
