Legendary director Chuck Russell, known for directing action films like “The Mask” and “The Scorpion King,” passed away suddenly at the age of 74 in his home in San Diego, California on July 22nd.
According to reports from American media outlets such as TMZ, local fire department and emergency personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a report of unconsciousness in the afternoon of the 22nd, only to confirm that Chuck Russell had passed away. The specific cause of death has not been officially disclosed by his family and lawyers yet, and is still under investigation.
Chuck Russell entered the film industry in the 1980s and made a name for himself with his self-written and directed film “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3” in 1987. Throughout his decades-long directing career, Chuck Russell gained global acclaim for his precise casting choices and top-notch visual effects, establishing himself as a prominent figure in Hollywood as a “star maker” and special effects master.
In 1994, Chuck Russell directed “The Mask,” a film with a budget of only $18 million that grossed over $350 million worldwide, becoming a surprise box office hit of the year.
