On Friday, July 24th, a salary chart image circulating on the internet revealed that the company offers highly competitive salary standards for its employees, generating heated discussions.
The salary chart shows that positions such as cashiers, warehouse workers, and supermarket stockers at Buc-ee’s have a starting hourly wage of $20, while Food Service Managers can earn an annual salary ranging from $150,000 to $200,000, and General Managers can earn between $200,000 and $275,000 per year.
The poster shared by Fox News quickly triggered discussions about whether one can earn a six-figure salary without going to college.
Experts have noted that this chain brand, headquartered in Texas, is more than just a gas station now. It has become a popular stop for highway travelers, known for its huge store size, diverse food options, and spotless restrooms.
To support the expansive store operations and quality service, the company has publicly disclosed a transparent salary structure titled “Career path to opportunities” on its website to attract talent:

Following the release of this salary standard, social media quickly split into two attitudes. Many online users pointed out that the starting salaries of many college graduates are much lower than the entry-level employees at Buc-ee’s.
A communication graduate on X (original Twitter) mentioned earning only $19 per hour, stating that cleaning restrooms at Buc-ee’s pays more than that. Another compared the approximate $49,000 annual salary of a junior teacher in Texas and expressed dissatisfaction, questioning, “Is having a higher education less rewarding than being a manager at a convenience store?”
On the other hand, some online users highlighted that the high salaries at Buc-ee’s are not simply “easy perks” but rewards for strict management under high pressure. The stores have very high expectations for attendance and work attitude, and managerial roles come with extreme workload.
“USA Today” reached out to Buc-ee’s regarding the qualifications needed for employment. According to their Assistant General Manager (starting at $125,000 per year) job listing, applicants are required to have a college degree, or 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Retail or management experience is preferred but not mandatory.
However, Assistant General Managers are required to work at least 48 hours per week, with most shifts covering early mornings, afternoons, and the majority of weekends and holidays—implying that the high salary comes at the cost of extensive time commitment and sacrificing holidays.
Buc-ee’s chain of stores was founded in 1982 in Texas by Arch “Beaver” Aplin. The brand operates 24 hours a day, offering high-quality brisket, with a cute beaver as its mascot. Particularly noteworthy are its award-winning spotless restrooms, earning it a large following of loyal fans.
