Renowned brand Dannon unexpectedly ceased production of their beloved classic coffee-flavored yogurt back in April, leaving many disappointed customers. Recently, a large number of these dissatisfied customers have launched a petition demanding the company to resume production, bringing the issue back into the spotlight.
According to a report by the New York Post on Friday, petitioners are urging people to not only participate in the petition but also to call Dannon’s customer service to voice their opinions. As of now, Dannon’s parent company, the French Danone Group, has yet to provide an official response regarding the reasons for the production halt and whether they are considering a comeback.
Recently reported by The Wall Street Journal, Dannon’s coffee yogurt has attracted a loyal following since its introduction, with many considering it a staple for their daily breakfast or even a part of their lifestyle. Due to the lack of similar products from other brands on the market, the news of its discontinuation has left many consumers surprised and disheartened.
The report quoted Rafael Acevedo, the head of Dannon’s yogurt division, as saying that the company understands consumers’ disappointment but hopes that coffee yogurt enthusiasts can enjoy alternative flavors.
Consumers, however, are not buying this response, stating that no other flavor can compare to the unique taste of the coffee-flavored yogurt.
A petition titled “Urge Dannon to Bring Back Coffee Yogurt” on change.org has already garnered over a thousand signatures (as of the time of writing).
The initiators of the petition mentioned that this yogurt blends rich coffee aroma with a smooth texture, containing approximately 32mg of caffeine per serving. Many people have used it as a replacement for morning coffee or a healthy snack option, and customers are urging Dannon to reassess their decision to discontinue.
Many consumers have also taken to social media platform X to share their thoughts. One user mentioned that their family had tried mixing instant coffee with vanilla yogurt as a substitute, but the taste was incomparable, leaving them feeling like a part of their life had been taken away. Another consumer urged other yogurt brands to enter the market, believing that there is still a stable demand for coffee-flavored yogurt.
Faced with the growing petition from consumers, Dannon seems to be wavering. According to a report from Huari, Dannon revealed last week that senior management may have had a change of heart. Acevedo stated that an improved version of Dannon’s coffee yogurt will be making a comeback.
