Traditional Chinese Beauty and Health Trend: Taiwanese Biotech Companies Seek Business Opportunities in the US

With the increasing global acceptance of natural health care methods, the combination of modern biotechnology and traditional Chinese medicine in beauty and health care products has gradually become a new favorite in consumer markets. Organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the “Taiwan Biotechnology and Chinese Medicine Industry Sales Expansion to the West” delegation held a business exchange meeting in Los Angeles on July 23. Wang Lihua, the marketing director of Tai Chi Tang Herbal Biotechnology Company, attended the exhibition to showcase Taiwan’s innovative strength in Chinese herbal health care to the American market.

According to Wang Lihua, the star products showcased in the United States this time focus on meeting the daily health needs of modern people, including pearl powder, metabolism-boosting fiber drinks, Chinese herbal tea, the popular “apple water,” collagen, and herbal soup packs. Through stylish and youthful packaging design, the team aims to break the stereotype of traditional Chinese medicine being “stuffy and old-fashioned,” targeting consumers aged 20 to 60 to easily experience Chinese herbal healthcare.

Regarding the competitive advantages of Taiwan’s Chinese herbal products, Wang Lihua emphasizes that Taiwan has extremely high quality requirements, with established standards from raw material inspection, product safety, to packaging regulations; while inheriting centuries of Chinese herbal wisdom, validated formulas are transformed into products that fit modern lifestyles.

During the exhibition, the Tai Chi Tang booth attracted many channel partners and professional buyers for inquiries. Asian chain supermarkets and procurement teams showed strong interest in their diverse health products; Tai Chi Tang’s time-consuming boiled formulas condensed into instant “apple water” have gained popularity for their convenience among many families; local Chinese medicine practitioners also gave positive feedback on the refreshing and palatable Chinese herbal tea and well-designed herbal soup packs.

Although this is Tai Chi Tang’s first exhibition in the United States and has not formally entered the local market, Wang Lihua has already set the United States as a core target for future overseas expansion. She analyzed that after the pandemic, global acceptance of Chinese herbal therapy has significantly increased. While Western medicine can quickly alleviate symptoms, the value of Chinese medicine is irreplaceable in improving fundamental constitution.

Wang Lihua believes that compared to some competitors who focused on Europe in the early years, the team is very optimistic about the increasing demand in the American market for natural health products. In the future, they will invest more resources to promote Taiwan’s high-quality Chinese herbal health culture on the international stage. ◇
