In a shocking case from Zhuzhen, Liuhe District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, a petitioner named Ye Feixia has been repeatedly illegally confined in mental hospitals for persecution. Two separate psychological assessments have confirmed her to be mentally sound. However, since January of this year, after being sent to a mental hospital by the town government, she has disappeared without a trace.
According to a source named Du Tao, Ye Feixia has been seeking justice through petitions due to issues related to forced demolitions and inadequate compensation, only to face continuous retaliation from the local government. The stress caused by her daughter’s persecution led to the tragic passing of Ye Feixia’s mother. “Her house was demolished, and the related issues remained unresolved. She kept petitioning, frequently visiting the Nanjing City Letters and Visits Bureau. The local government retaliated against her multiple times, claiming she has a mental illness.”
Du Tao revealed that every time Ye Feixia was confined by the Liuhe District government, she was subjected to physical abuse. Subsequently, she was transferred to a mental hospital in Hangzhou. “It’s really pitiful. The first time she was sent to a mental hospital, her mother was extremely anxious. Before her daughter’s return, she passed away. Hearing this news was truly heartbreaking for us.”
Prior to the 2024 National People’s Congress, former director of the Liuhe District Letters and Visits Bureau, Zhou Xiaojun, and others had surveilled and threatened Ye Feixia. Later, she was once again sent to a mental hospital. During this period, doctors injected her with unidentified substances for over ten consecutive days, leading to severe physical and mental trauma, including swollen and painful legs and trembling fingers.
Feeling helpless, Ye Feixia underwent two psychological assessments. Du Tao mentioned, “The results showed no signs of mental illness. She went to Shanghai for the evaluations, and both reports confirmed her mental stability.”
In July of this year, rights activists in Nanjing, including Yu Ping and over 50 other internet users, jointly filed a petition demanding the immediate release of Ye Feixia. On July 24th, while Yu Ping was submitting the joint petition at the Jiangsu Public Security Department Letters and Visits Office, she was taken away by the police and has not been heard from since.
Mainland Chinese lawyer Xiang Yang stated that the psychiatric hospitals established by the Chinese Communist Party are akin to underground black markets and black prisons, used to incarcerate numerous dissenters and human rights activists. Those who genuinely suffer from mental health issues may not even be admitted. “Therefore, under the rule of the CCP, it’s akin to a mafia.”
