Henan: “Pirate Ship” Ride in Amusement Park Breaks in Half During Operation.

On August 18, in Anliang Town, Jiaxian County, Pingdingshan, Henan Province, a pirate ship carrying multiple passengers broke in the middle, leading to scenes of crying and distress on site.

Several netizens shared videos showing the pirate ship in Anliang Town, Jiaxian County, Henan Province, snapped in half, accompanied by cries for help as some passengers were trapped inside.

A resident of Anliang Town informed the media on the morning of August 19 that the incident occurred on the evening of August 18. When passing by the area the next morning, they noticed that the amusement equipment had been removed, and there were no reports of casualties.

Authorities from the Jiaxian County Public Security Bureau mentioned that they had received the alarm and needed to gather information locally before providing official updates. Local town government officials stated that no casualties were reported from the incident, only minor injuries to some individuals.

According to reports from “Qilu Evening News. Qilu One Point,” government officials from Anliang Town confirmed that the incident took place between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on August 18. The amusement ride suffered damage due to the breakage of its bottom frame, and all the riders were taken to hospitals for examinations. Fortunately, no one was severely harmed, and most had already returned home by the previous night. The specific number of individuals taken to the hospital was not disclosed at the time, as officials were still in the process of managing the situation.

At present, the responsible authority stated that activities involving the damaged amusement facility have been suspended until further notice.

On August 16, in support of boosting nighttime economy in the area, the eight-day “Cool Summer” fireworks market in Anliang Town officially commenced in the evening. As reported by “Beautiful Anliang,” the town also held the “Cool Summer” fireworks market on August 16, 17, and 18 at the old bridge in Anliang Town.

Some netizens raised concerns, questioning the operation of large amusement facilities as specialized equipment requiring operators with specific operating certificates. Regular thorough inspections and meticulous maintenance of equipment were also highlighted as essential practices. Questions were posed regarding the cause of the ship’s breakage and potential neglect in routine inspections that may have led to the accident due to aging equipment and accumulated hidden dangers.

While the operators of the amusement park bear primary responsibility for equipment maintenance and staff training, some raised queries about the supervisory roles of regulatory authorities in ensuring routine inspections to prevent such incidents from occurring.
