On Monday, September 28, the SpaceX heavy-duty launch rocket “Starship” took off from the Interstellar Base and successfully entered Earth’s low orbit for the first time, releasing 26 V3 starlink satellites. This was the 14th flight of the Starship since testing began in 2023. The previous 13 flights were in suborbital flights lasting no more than 2 hours. However, this orbit entry represents a milestone in transitioning from an experimental prototype to a revenue-generating space system. Nevertheless, this test flight was not without its flaws. Originally planned for a nearly 10-hour mission circling the Earth six times, the Starship returned prematurely after flying for just over 3 hours.
Despite the imperfections, the 14th test flight had its highlights and challenges. Let’s also discuss the latest developments in Starlink and Starshield, before looking into how far the Starship is from reaching the moon.
