Following the downfall of Lu Jin, former Chairman of China Gold Group, Zhao Zhanguo, the former Deputy General Manager of the group, is now under investigation by the authorities.
On December 8th, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission announced on their official website that Zhao Zhanguo, former member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China Gold Group Limited, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation.
Public information indicates that Zhao Zhanguo was born in 1968 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1992. He has been engaged in the non-ferrous metal industry for many years, having held positions such as Assistant General Manager of China Gold Group Limited, Chairman of China Gold Group Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd., and Chairman of China Gold Group Copper Co., Ltd.
Additionally, Zhao Zhanguo has also served as a member of the Third People’s Congress Standing Committee of Hulunbuir City and the Director of the National Gold Standardization Technical Committee of the Fourth National Gold Standardization Technical Committee. In December 2020, he was recognized as the “National Outstanding Entrepreneur of 2019-2020”.
In November of this year, Zhao Zhanguo attended several public events. Most notably, on November 5th, he participated in the opening ceremony of the 7th China International Import Expo and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum held in Shanghai. Zhou Zhou, the Party Secretary and Chairman of China Gold Group Limited, was invited to attend the opening ceremony, and Zhao Zhanguo also participated in the event.
On September 25th of this year, Lu Jin, former Party Secretary and Chairman of China Gold Group, was investigated.
Lu Jin had worked for many years at the China Metallurgical Geology Bureau, having held positions such as Party Secretary, Director, Deputy Director, and member of the Party Committee. In November 2019, Lu Jin became the Party Secretary and Chairman of China Gold Group, concurrently serving as the Chairman of the listed subsidiary of the group, Zhongjin Gold Corporation Limited, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors’ Strategic Committee.
According to the official website, China Gold Group is the only central enterprise in China’s gold industry, established in 2003, formerly known as the State Gold Administration and China National Gold Corporation. Currently, the group has four listed companies and operates over 3,000 “China Gold” brand marketing outlets in major cities across the country.
