The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China clarified today (4th) that there are no current active public security officers from the Chinese Communist Party within Taiwan’s borders, as circulated on the internet. Relevant individuals have already been repatriated by the government.
The Mainland Affairs Council stated that the video circulating online depicting a current active public security officer from the Chinese Communist Party in Taipei is actually a former public security officer from mainland China who was sentenced to a prison term for robbery in China. This individual of mainland origin illegally entered Taiwan in July of 114 (2025), was apprehended by the Taiwan Coast Guard, and served a sentence after being convicted by the court.
The Council pointed out that during the waiting period for repatriation, the relevant video was released due to the confinement limits set by the law enforcement authorities, leading the government to release the individual under the “alternative detention” provision. In response to such cases, council members have proposed amending related regulations to enhance the security management of those under alternative detention, and the government will cooperate fully in the revision of relevant regulations.
The Mainland Affairs Council emphasized that for internet information that deviates from the facts, it is hoped that the public will not spread misinformation. The government will continue its efforts to safeguard national security, social order, and the safety of cross-strait personnel flow, reassuring the people.
Furthermore, regarding media reports of a mainland Chinese lawyer seeking assistance in Taiwan, the Council stated that this case is an emergency situation where the government has prioritized humanitarian assistance.
According to media reports, Chinese human rights lawyer Wang Xiaohong, who had defended the Zion Church and faced oppression by the Chinese authorities, arrived in Taiwan with her family seeking refuge early on the 3rd. Currently, she and her family have been allowed to stay in Taiwan on humanitarian grounds while awaiting placement in a third country.
The Mainland Affairs Council confirmed that the government did handle a sudden incident involving a mainland individual transiting through an airport in Taiwan. The government, considering humanitarian factors, provided initial assistance and is proceeding with follow-up actions.
