Five months after his fall from grace, former deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress, Yue Puyu, has been expelled from the party, had his benefits revoked, and was transferred to judicial authorities. In late March of this year, Yue Puyu, who had been retired for three years, was officially placed under investigation.
On September 2, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced that with the approval of the Central Committee of the CPC, an investigation had been launched into the serious disciplinary and legal violations of Yue Puyu, former member of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress and deputy director of the party committee.
According to the announcement, Yue Puyu violated regulations by accepting banquets and arranged travel activities. He failed to report personal matters as required and improperly sought benefits for others in cadres selection and appointment processes. Yue Puyu also accepted gifts in violation of regulations, intervened in and interfered with market economic activities, engaged in trading power and money, and exploited his position to benefit others in coal resource allocation, project contracting, equipment procurement, and other areas.

On March 30 of this year, Yue Puyu was officially placed under investigation, becoming another senior official in Shanxi Province to fall from grace in the past two years, following in the footsteps of Jin Xiangjun, former Governor of Shanxi Province, and Wu Cunrong, former Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Public records show that Yue Puyu was born in Taiyuan, Shanxi in October 1959. In 1982, he started working at the Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Factory Design Institute and rose to become the director of the design institute in 1996.
In 2000, Yue Puyu was appointed as the deputy general manager of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd., and in 2002, he concurrently served as the chairman of Taiyuan Heavy Industry. He became the general manager of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group in 2003, and was promoted to chairman in 2009.
In 2012, after working at Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group for 30 years, Yue Puyu transitioned into politics and served as the deputy secretary and acting mayor of Linfen City. He later held the position formally.
In May 2016, Yue Puyu was appointed as the secretary of the Linfen Municipal Committee. In January 2018, he stepped down from this position while already serving as the deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress. He resigned from this post in January 2023.
